Seagate
Mid-Century Coastal | Seagate, Florida
This Seagate residence was created for a husband and wife from New Jersey who were ready to have their own slice of paradise in Florida. With three grown children and plans to visit at least once a month, they wanted a vacation home that felt welcoming, comfortable, and ready for family and friends to enjoy.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom condominium had already been completely remodeled when they purchased it. My role was to take the beautifully renovated space and turn it into a home by installing custom closet systems and roller shades, then selecting and installing all of the furnishings, lighting, artwork, accessories, and décor.
Partway through the project, an unexpected water leak from the unit above caused water damage. Fortunately, this was not my first experience managing a situation like this. Within hours, I had a trusted local water and fire remediation company on site to begin the cleanup and restoration process. Once the repairs were complete, we were able to get the project back on schedule and continue with furniture deliveries and installation.

The Design
The clients wanted a mid-century modern aesthetic softened by coastal color and warmth. The goal was never to create an overtly “beachy” home, but rather a relaxed Florida retreat that felt sophisticated, comfortable, and naturally inviting. The design was thoughtfully tailored to the way the family planned to live, relax, and entertain. This was a home meant to be enjoyed, not simply looked at. Rugs were selected with sandy feet in mind. The bathrooms were outfitted with generous hooks and towel rods so wet swimsuits and beach towels always had a place to go. Storage was incorporated wherever possible, making it easy for the family and their guests to arrive, unpack, settle in, and actually enjoy their time.
The bonus room just off the primary suite became one of my favorite spaces in the home. Overlooking the retention pond, it offered a quiet place to watch the sunset as ibis wandered through the landscape and iguanas munched on the grass below. The design was thoughtfully tailored to the way the family planned to live, relax, and entertain. Soft blue distressed velvet swivel chairs created a peaceful spot for conversation, a cup of tea, or simply curling up with a good book. In the main living area, the living room, kitchen, and dining room were designed to flow naturally together, with comfortable seating, thoughtful lighting, and plenty of room for the family to gather.
The dining room became especially personal with artwork created by local young artists Bodhi + Sky. Their custom acrylic pour canvas incorporated soft sage green, dusty blue, and calming cream, all the colors that tied beautifully into the surrounding furnishings and brought another layer of personality into the home. The finished residence feels warm, relaxed, sophisticated, and unmistakably Florida, without ever feeling like a theme.
The Client
This project was a true joy to design because the vision was about so much more than creating a beautiful vacation property. This family wanted a place where they could reconnect, entertain friends, welcome their children, and create memories for years to come. I loved designing a home that could accommodate all of that with beauty, comfort, and just the right amount of personality.
And, as with so many projects, the unexpected water damage became an important reminder of why experience and trusted relationships matter. When something went wrong, the clients didn't have to figure out who to call or what to do next. I was familiar with the process and was able to pivot and manage the situation with calm and ease. Once the repairs were behind us, we returned to what we came to do: create a home filled with warmth, beauty, and positive energy. This home was a true pleasure to create and it feels every bit as loved as it was intended to be.
