Broken Sound, FL

Contemporary Coastal | Boca Raton, Florida

This Broken Sound residence was designed for a husband and wife whose three grown children remained a constant in their family life. After years of gathering in their family home in the new Jersey, they were ready for a new chapter: selling that family home and embracing life as true snowbirds, spending cooler months in Boca Raton and the summer in their Hamptons home.

The 3,600-square-foot residence sits adjacent to the golf course and offered beautiful architectural bones, including 12-foot ceilings and expansive glass sliders throughout the bedrooms. The home, however, needed to be completely reimagined to suit the family's new lifestyle.

The scope was extensive. We fully remodeled all four bathrooms, completed a significant kitchen renovation without a full demolition, replaced the flooring throughout the home, and replaced every window. Furnishings were also a major part of the transformation, as the family brought virtually no furniture with them from their previous home.

THE DESIGN

The vision was contemporary coastal, but intentionally sophisticated rather than overtly beachy.

I wanted the home to feel light, calm, and effortlessly Florida, using soft coastal shades of blues and greens layered against warm beige, creamy whites, and natural textures. With the home's generous scale, high ceilings, and abundance of glass, there was already an incredible sense of openness and light. My goal was to enhance those qualities rather than compete with them.

Every selection was made with the family's lifestyle in mind. The home needed to feel polished and sophisticated enough for entertaining, while remaining comfortable and welcoming when their children and guests came to stay. It needed to be beautiful, but never precious.

I wanted this to be the kind of home where people could relax, put their feet up, gather around the kitchen, and enjoy themselves without worrying about ruining something. A home that could handle real life, yet continue to feel fresh, youthful, and beautifully considered.

THE CLIENT

This was one of those projects where the relationship with the client became just as meaningful as the design itself. They were a wonderful, warm, and genuinely loving family, and it was a true pleasure to create a home that would become the setting for this next chapter of their lives.

I always think fondly of this family and of the time spent creating their home. There is something particularly rewarding about designing a space not simply for how it looks, but for the people and the life that will unfold inside it.
